Hornby Island Community School

The school is located opposite the Community Hall. Our facility is a West Coast contemporary style building set in a large forested clearing which includes a soccer pitch, outdoor basketball court, two playgrounds, baseball diamond, a fitness track and an outdoor classroom.

Our learning centre is home to our learning assistance
teacher and a fulltime educational assistant.

Our large and spacious Kindergarten and early primary classroom is a lovely room
well stocked with toys and blocks for play and includes a kitchen and its own bathroom.

The library is the heart of the school with thousands of books. An excellent
up to date collection, it also contains a parenting section. It is not uncommon
to look out the large windows to see deer grazing on the lawn outside.

Adjacent to the library is our Natural History Collection. This room has been
transformed into an intriguing display of local birds, fossils, and insects,
which is also open to the public during the summer months.

Our computer lab has twenty-five computers, high speed Internet,
and has been completely upgraded in 2007

The Music room is actually a multi-purpose room, which has a piano and a variety of musical instruments. It is also used for art projects, parenting classes and the community choir in the evening.
