School Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a safe, secure and inclusive environment, which fosters each student’s positive self-concept and which creates opportunities for each youngster to grow to his or her potential.

As a community school, our mission is to reflect and support the community of Hornby Island in an inclusive, integrated manner through advocacy, programs, services and activities that respond to expressed needs of individuals and the community .

"Educating the Heart and the Mind"

In many ways, Hornby School serves as a center of our small, but vibrant island community. Over the years the school has developed extensive programs to meet the unique needs of families and children in our community. These programs support life-long learning, student self-esteem, academic achievement, physical well-being, healthy choices, and school connectedness.

Goal#1
To improve the ability of students to demonstrate socially responsible behaviour, through healthy and conscious relationships with each other, the community, the environment, and the world in general.

Goal #2
To improve students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes in science.

Goal #3
To improve students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes in writing.
