School Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a safe, secure and inclusive environment, which fosters each student’s positive self-concept and which creates opportunities for each youngster to grow to his or her potential.

As a community school, our mission is to reflect and support the community of Hornby Island in an inclusive, integrated manner through advocacy, programs, services and activities that respond to expressed needs of individuals and the community .

Goals for 2007-2008

"Educating the Heart and the Mind"

This year the school is collaborating with the New Horizons Center on the Archives Project titled, “Hornby Elders Speaking to Our Island Youth”. This exciting intergenerational project will be a year long school theme and will serve as a vehicle to develop our social responsibility and literacy goals.

Goal#1
To improve the ability of students to demonstrate Socially Responsible behaviour, through healthy and conscious relationships with each other, the community, the environment, and the world in general.

Goal #2
To improve students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes in writing.

Goal #3
To improve students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes in numeracy.
